How I turned LinkedIn into a Powerful B2B Lead Generation Channel (revealing my exact strategy)
Hello medium readers,
Before you even start reading this article, let me tell you — it’s going to be long and might take 6 minutes of your time.
If you are don’t want to invest 8 minutes into reading about why LinkedIn is powerful for lead generation and just want to get straight to the strategies —feel free to scroll down.
LinkedIn has proven to be a gold-mine of opportunity for the select few who know how to use it — yet majority business owners don’t know what to do or worse, still go about it with the wrong strategy and send salesy & sleazy messages and get labelled as “annoying spammers” or “sleazy salesperson”
Have you ever received messages like this?
How I discovered Goldmine of LEADS which was in front of me this whole time…
August 2018 — I was struggling to get clients for my own Facebook advertising agency.
I was helping restaurants in my local area with Facebook advertising, but damn were the sales cycle long. It often took me 1–2 weeks to close a client as I had to go see the restaurant owner in person and try to pitch them my services.
But it wasn’t that easy — most of the time the gatekeepers would stall me saying the owner isn’t here or whenever I would finish talking about my services, the owner would tell me that they either don’t have a budget or need to think about it.
This led me wasting a lot of time and no results to show. If you are a service provider or agency owner you know how it feel like right?
Suddenly One Day -
I received a message from a marketing agency owner providing SEO services on LinkedIn, they asked me if I could help them get clients for their agency. I told them that I only help B2C companies and not really sure if my Facebook ads expertise will help a B2B company generate leads or clients.
Nonetheless I decided to set up a call with them.
I still had a day before the call so I decided “hey why not research a little bit about how to generate leads for a B2B business?”
I tried seeking help and asked some fellow marketers on Facebook groups and even posted on Reddit.
Most of the advice I got was genuine but required a lot of skill and expertise to execute and I didn’t have that much time to develop those skills.
I tried thinking of a few ways but called it quits after a while and decided to jump on the call the next day and decided to be really honest…
ON THE CALL
I told them that there’s a way I can help them get clients that will save them time and money both but I need at least a few weeks to prepare and create a solid system that I can use to bring them the results they were looking for. And told them honestly -
“I don’t want to set your expectations high about something I don’t know how to do myself, once I figure it out — I’ll get back to you”
“LIGHT BULB” Moment that changed everything for me…
After scrolling through numerous articles and going through Facebook groups & forums late night, I stopped and had an epiphany.
I kept thinking “wait a minute, that agency owner reached out to me about my services on LinkedIn, what if I did the same for them?”
“What would that look like?”
“What if I reached out to their ideal prospects using their account in a strategic way that could get them to agree for a sales appointment or consultation?”
Bitten by the curiosity to figure things out…
I DID THE NEXT BEST THING.
I reached out to a few people on forums and Facebook groups who were getting clients from LinkedIn.
I asked them simply -
“Hey, I need help on how to get clients from LinkedIn, can you tell me what’s working for you at the moment?”
Here’s 5 of the most important responses I received…
- “I’ve been setting up follow up sequences to schedule sales calls”
- “1. I find who can put me in touch with my target 2. Send an invitation with a reason why we should connect 3. Seek to follow up with a face to face soon thereafter”
- “building relationship through staying in contact with important decision makers.”
- “using the sales navigator to target potential referral contacts.”
- “making initial connections and then building the relationship off the platform using email.”
I tried testing some of those ideas and created a process that could work for any B2B business, even my own.
And after a few weeks, I created a process (workflow) step by step on how to get past the gatekeepers, connect with decision makers, how to engage them and how to strategically get them on the phone and close them.
And finally — IT CLICKED!
I started getting prospects for my own agency on the phone left & right and got my calendar booked solid…
And after a few weeks, I decided to stop providing Facebook Ads as a service and decided to provide LinkedIn lead generation services full time.
And you might be wondering, what was the strategy that I discovered?
The strategy that worked wonders:
It’s as simple as this…
1. Create a compelling LinkedIn Profile and position yourself as an expert so that clients come to you.
2. Reach out to them in a strategic way and bring them into my network.
3. Gradually work them through a messaging process and build an authentic relationship.
4. Once they are receptive to a pitch send them “proven” lead generation messages that gets them on the phone.
5. Get on the phone and close them for monthly retainer.
Once I had a process dialed in, I shared my results and experiences with people on Facebook groups and started getting inquiries like these:
After a while, I started teaching my client acquisition system to a select few who were willing to take action on the strategies I gave them and their results started to show:
